Taliban Train Monkeys with AK-47 to Fire U.S. Troops

A report in China Daily indicates that the army created the Taliban Mujahideen CENTRAL monkeys.

Story that appeared in July 2010 in the China Daily suggested that the rebels use the reward system-and-punishment to train the monkeys and baboons to target soldiers wearing U.S. military uniforms.

Taliban allegedly "taught monkeys how to use a Kalashnikov, Bren light machine guns and trench mortars."

But a researcher who has spent his career studying the social life of non-human primates is criticized on this story.

"They can be trained to do things like turn off the lights and open faucets and so forth, but finally a break," said William Mason, a psychologist and professor emeritus at the University of California.

Chinese story quoted British journalist and an unnamed U.S. military sources when discussing the idea of monkeys rebels.

In contrast, the U.S. Stars and Stripes news source interviewed a NATO spokesperson as saying the idea has no basis in reality
